Last Sunday, November 3, 2013, we celebrated H.H. Jigdal Dagchen Sakya's birthday here at Sakya Monastery. We recited long life prayers, offered mandalas and katags, and enjoyed cake afterwards. But we weren't the only ones celebrating. All over the world, Sakya Centers were also honoring H.H. J.D. Sakya on his birthday.

Her Eminence Dagmo Kusho will be visiting Hong Kong 1/14/15 -1/19/15 and Nepal 1/19/15-1/26/15. The Sakya Center in Hong Kong has requested that she bestow a Medicine Buddha Initiation. Also, while in Hong Kong, she will lead the Guru Padmasambhava Tso puja at the Mahasandi Yoga Center. In Nepal, Dagmo Kusho will be visiting Ane (nun) Chime who is her 93 year old aunt and the sister of HE Dezhung Rinpoche III.

His Holiness Jigdal Dagchen Sakya’s Parinirvana was on May 5th.  Many of the regular pujas at Sakya Monastery have been cancelled.  In lieu of these, we are doing special prayers for 49 days, according to the Sakya Tradition, that are led by lamas from different Sakya centers around the world.  These prayers will conclude on June 23.  Lamas, monks, nuns, and followers of H.H. Dagchen Rinpoche are visiting Sakya Monastery to be blessed and pay homage and tribute to H.H. Dagchen Rinpoche’s remarkable life of spiritual service.  Members and the public are welcome to attend the ongoing pujas for H.H. Dagchen Rinpoche.  Please follow the schedule of daily pujas listed on our calendar. You are also welcome to make offerings to the Buddha, the lamas doing prayers and in memory of H.H. Dagchen Rinpoche.  Prayers of Supplication and Swift Rebirth for H.H. Dagchen Rinpoche are available at the Monastery and online.  Donations can be made online via the Donate link at the top of this page.

The events will begin at 9am with a Vajrayogini Puja and will conclude with a 9pm Candelight Vigil outside Sakya Monastery. On April 29, 2016, H.H. Jigdal Dagchen Sakya passed into a special state of meditation (Thukdam). Upon learning this, H.H. Sakya Trizin immediately traveled to Seattle and under his guidance led special services and prayers for 7 days until H.H. Jigdal Dagchen Sakya entered Parinirvana on May 5.

On May 8, H.H. Sakya Trizin and entourage returned to the east coast to resume his teachings. However, under H.H. Sakya Trizin’s guidance, almost 20 lamas continued the holy 49-Day Prayers until June 23, 2016. These prayers were led by H.E. Avikrita Rinpoche, H.E. Abhaya Rinpoche, H.E. Asanga Rinpoche, Dorje Lopon Khenpo Drakpa and Omze Ponlop Tashi Rinpoche.

These prayers included Guru Puja, Vajrayogini Puja, Aspiration of Samantabhadra, Hevajra, Vajrakila and Vairochana Grand Ritual Puja.
